Joseph D. Oliver
My passion for working with people came later in life as a second career. Prior to returning to college, I worked as a commercial plumber and pipefitter for over two decades. My work took me all over the state of Alaska and many states in the lower 48 working in the oil fields. These experiences were a large part of making me who I am as a person. Living through the ups and downs of life with marriages and divorces, being a single working father, and being the sole caregiver for my own father through his cancers and hospice have made a significant impression on how I view the world. Every person makes mistakes, big and small. Every person, no matter what or how big the mistake, also has the right to find inner peace and self-actualization.
As a Licensed Master Social Worker, I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and achieve their personal goals. I hold a master’s degree in social work from University of Alaska Anchorage and have extensive training in various therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions Focused Therapy, and trauma-informed care.
My approach is client-centered and strengths-based, focusing on creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. I believe in the power of working together to tailor a method that meets your unique goals. Having a background in collaborating with veterans, seniors, and adults facing the challenges associated with mental health and/or substance use disorders, I am passionate about supporting individuals through difficult times and helping them build resilience.
I strongly believe in the right for an individual’s self-determination and the inherent worth and dignity of each person regardless of behaviors, thoughts, or feelings. This approach fosters a safe space for clients that allows room to express themselves openly and authentically without fear of criticism or rejection. Whether you’re facing relationship issues, work-related stress, or everyday personal struggles, I am here to support you on your journey toward healing and growth.
In our sessions you can expect a compassionate and non-judgmental space where your voice, and your experiences, are validated. Whether you’re facing relationship issues, work-related stress, or everyday personal struggles, I am here to support you on your journey toward healing and growth.
I look forward to partnering with you on your path to well-being.
